Problem

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection. The virus is responsible for causing dengue, is called the dengue virus (DENV). While many DENV infections produce only mild illness, DENV can cause acute flu-like illness. Occasionally this develops into a potentially lethal complication, called severe dengue. It is a leading cause of serious illness and it requires attention and medication by medical professionals.

1. 1. 1. There is no specific treatment for dengue/severe dengue. Early detection of disease progression associated with severe dengue, and access to proper medical care lowers fatality rates of severe dengue to below 1%
      2. The global incidence of dengue has grown dramatically in recent decades. About half of the world’s population is now at risk. There are an estimated 100-400 million infections each year.
      3. Dengue prevention and control depends on effective vector control measures. Sustained community involvement can improve vector control efforts substantially.

What We Do

Prevention of mosquito breeding and mosquito bites can go a long way in preventing/restricting this disease. White Tulips is an endeavor to provide and preventive healthcare to the entire community and curative healthcare specifically to the underprivileged children. Creating awareness about dengue is easy and helpful. Beyond that, it takes just Rs. 300 to provide DENGUE PREVENTION KIT to an underprivileged child. The kit consists of two things.

      2. Mosquito repellents to tide over the monsoon period

Goal

The aim of the task is to spread dengue prevention awareness, surveillance, diagnostic testing, and health camps and help sponsor DENGUE PROTECTION KITS for under-privileged children.

Problem

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. It is preventable and curable.

1. 1. 1. In 2018, there were an estimated 228 million cases of malaria worldwide.
      2. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 405000 in 2018.
      3. India accounts for 4% of  the global burden
      4. Children aged under 5 years are the most vulnerable group affected by malaria; in 2018, they accounted for 67% (272000) of all malaria deaths worldwide

What We Do

Increasing investments to end malaria will save millions of lives, mostly pregnant women and children in India. However, despite tremendous progress, malaria remains one of the top killers of children under five and is a major cause of poverty and inequality in India. Surveillance and response systems can identify and track the transmission of other fast-moving infectious diseases.

1. 1. 1. Rapid diagnostics and better treatments address the growing threat of resistance to anti-malarial drugs and insecticides.
      2. Health care workers trained to diagnose and treat malaria also fight other diseases and can respond quickly to an emerging epidemic.

Malaria keeps families and communities from prospering. By sustaining investments in ending malaria and improving health, we can unlock economic growth and human potential.

Problem

Tuberculosis, or TB, is a bacterial infection that can spread through the air. It is most often found in the lungs. When a person coughs or sneezes, they can transmit so-called “active” TB.  The body’s immune system may restrain the disease, but it does not destroy it. While some people will never develop active TB, five to 10 percent of carriers will become sick in their lifetime.

TB is curable and preventable. Multi-drug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) remains a public health crisis that there were 484000 new cases with resistance to Rifampicin 78% had MDR-TB. At 27%, India also had the highest number of MDR-TB.

TB and HIV/AIDS are a deadly duo. HIV weakens people’s immune systems, allowing TB to flourish. TB is the leading killer of people with HIV/AIDS, claiming over one in four lives of people with HIV. And, in countries where TB is prevalent, people with HIV/AIDS are 20 times more likely to contract TB than others without HIV. Despite enormous gains made in battling the HIV epidemic, TB’s deadly synergy with HIV/AIDS threatens to destabilize gains in TB control. While people are living with HIV, they are now dying of TB.

1. 1. 1. 5 million people died from TB in 2018 Worldwide, TB is one of the top 10 causes of death (above HIV/AIDS).
      2. In 2018, 10 million people fell ill with tuberculosis (TB) worldwide. 5.7 million men, 3.2 million women and 1.1 million children.
      3. 1 million Children affected, 205 000 child deaths due to TB.
      4. Out of 30 high TB burden countries which account for 87% of new TB cases. India leading the count.
      5. Globally, TB incidence fall needs to accelerate to a 4–5%decline
      6. An estimated 58 million lives were saved through TB diagnosis and treatment between 2000 and 2018.

Problem

Globally, diarrhoeal diseases are the second leading cause of death among children under five, even with the existence of preventive measures, such as oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and zinc supplements as general treatments. Many different bacteria, viruses and other pathogens can cause diarrhoeal disease.

Children are dying for lack of basic healthcare knowledge among citizens and health workers, and this is especially true of children with diarrhoea.

1. 1. 1. Each year diarrhoea kills around 525000 children under five.
      2. A significant proportion of diarrhoeal disease can be prevented through safe drinking-water and adequate sanitation and hygiene.
      3. Globally, there are nearly 1.7 billion cases of childhood diarrhoeal disease every year.
      4. Diarrhoea is a leading cause of malnutrition in children under five years old.

What we do

Surveillance in slums, migrants, under privileged population are done by Tulips.

Goal

Tulips Foundation takes this as a movement by an integrated approach to combat diarrhoeal disease. Through the campaigns, we interact by person-to-person interactions and reduce the deaths to a minimum number.

HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed more than 32 million lives so far. Adolescent girls and young women are vulnerable to HIV. Men who have sex with men, people who inject drugs, people in prisons and other closed settings and also sex workers and their clients, and transgender people.

HIV vulnerability is often associated with legal and social factors, creates barriers to accessing effective, quality and affordable HIV prevention, testing and treatment services.

Health education camps, Screening camps, Nutritional support and Referral system for ART are done to combat the disease.

1. 1. 1. There were approximately 37.9 million people living with HIV at the end of 2018.
      2. As a result of concerted efforts to respond to HIV, coverage of services has been steadily increasing. In 2018, 62% of adults and 54% of children living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries were receiving lifelong antiretroviral therapy (ART).
      3. A great majority (82%) of pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV also received ART,
      4. However, not everyone is able to access HIV testing, treatment and care.
      5. Due to gaps in HIV services, 770000 people died from HIV-related causes in 2018 and 1.7 million people were newly infected.
      6. In 2018, for the first time, individuals from key population groups and their sexual partners accounted for over half of all new HIV infections globally (an estimated 54%) in 2018
      7. An Awareness programme is needed for adolescent girls and young women. Men who have sex with men; people who inject drugs; people in prisons and other closed settings. sex workers and their clients; and transgender people
      8. There is no cure for HIV infection. However, effective antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) can control the virus and help prevent onward transmission to other people.
